In 2016, Rolex revamped the Air-King with the 116900, departing from its classic aesthetic with a bold and polarizing design inspired by the dash instruments of the Bloodhound Super Sonic Car. This model was met with mixed reactions. In 2022, Rolex decided to retain the unconventional design but made various improvements to the Air-King. The case was updated with sharper angles, a thinner bezel, and new proportions. The dial was enlarged for improved legibility, featuring redesigned markers and hands. The movement was also updated to the modern Caliber 3230 with a 70-hour power reserve. While the new Air-King maintains its bold and unique character, these changes have enhanced its overall appeal, making it a watch worth considering for those who appreciate its distinctive style.
