The Rolex Sea-Dweller made its debut in the early 1960s with the introduction of the iconic Sea-Dweller 1665. It represented the culmination of the "old style" Sea-Dweller models, characterized by smaller markers on the dial, a stamped clasp, and an aluminum bezel insert. Under the hood, the 16600 was powered by Rolex's robust calibre 3135, notable for its extended 48-hour power reserve.
