The Heuer 02 Manufacture movement is truly exceptional, boasting a column-wheel with vertical coupling. Depressing the pushpiece at 4 o'clock causes the central chronograph seconds hand to smoothly reset to noon without any noticeable wobble.
The open-worked oscillating mass adds a contemporary touch to the movement's aesthetics. The bridges underneath are elegantly adorned with the Côtes de Genève motif, and the column-wheel is strikingly accented in a vibrant shade of red. This gives the impression of a thoroughly modern movement, complete with the convenience of its self-winding capabilities.
While some may long for a hand-wound movement, akin to the original Valjoux 72, I must acknowledge a part of me that shares this sentiment. However, the automatic movement provides a level of practicality that cannot be overlooked.
The Heuer 02 movement boasts a balance oscillating at a frequency of 28,800 VpH (4Hz) and comprises a total of 168 components, including 33 jewels. Impressively, it can operate autonomously for a substantial 80 hours, ensuring reliable performance.
